What is an Anti-Jo-1 Antibody Test?
The Anti-Jo-1 antibody test detects antibodies against histidyl-tRNA synthetase, a protein involved in protein synthesis. It is primarily used to diagnose and monitor polymyositis and dermatomyositis, which are inflammatory muscle diseases.
Normal Range:
- Negative / Undetectable: No Anti-Jo-1 antibodies present.
- Positive: Detectable Anti-Jo-1 antibodies (may indicate autoimmune disease).
(Ranges may vary based on laboratory testing methods)
Purpose of the Test:
✅ Diagnose Polymyositis & Dermatomyositis – Anti-Jo-1 antibodies are commonly found in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies.
✅ Identify Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) – Associated with lung involvement in autoimmune conditions.
✅ Monitor Autoimmune Disorders – Helps assess disease progression and response to treatment.
✅ Evaluate Symptoms – Ordered for muscle weakness, joint pain, fatigue, and lung issues.
What Can Affect Anti-Jo-1 Test Results?
🔹 Positive Anti-Jo-1: May be seen in polymyositis, dermatomyositis, interstitial lung disease, and other autoimmune disorders.
🔹 Negative Anti-Jo-1 but Myositis Symptoms: Other myositis-specific antibodies may be present.
How is the Test Performed?
A blood sample is drawn from a vein and analyzed for Anti-Jo-1 antibodies using immunological testing methods.
📌 When to Get Tested? If experiencing unexplained muscle weakness, lung issues, or autoimmune disease symptoms.
