What is the Anti-CCP Test?

The Anti-Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide (Anti-CCP) test detects autoantibodies targeting citrullinated proteins. It is a key marker for diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis (RA), an autoimmune disease that affects the joints.

Normal Range:

  • Negative: < 20 U/mL (No significant antibodies detected)
  • Weakly Positive: 20 - 39 U/mL (Possible early-stage RA)
  • Moderate to Strongly Positive: ≥ 40 U/mL (High likelihood of RA)

(Reference values may vary depending on laboratory methods)

Purpose of the Test:

Early Diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) – More specific than rheumatoid factor (RF).
Predict Disease Severity & Progression – Higher levels are linked to more aggressive RA.
Differentiate RA from Other Joint Diseases – Helps distinguish RA from osteoarthritis or lupus.
Support Treatment Decisions – Guides therapy choices and prognosis assessment.

What Can Affect Anti-CCP Test Results?

🔹 Positive Anti-CCP: Strongly associated with RA, but may also be present in other autoimmune conditions.
🔹 Negative Anti-CCP but RA Symptoms: RA can still be diagnosed based on clinical signs and RF levels.
🔹 Higher Levels: Indicate a greater risk of joint damage and long-term complications.

How is the Test Performed?

A blood sample is drawn and analyzed using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) or similar immunological techniques.

📌 When to Get Tested? If experiencing joint pain, stiffness, swelling, or suspected rheumatoid arthritis.
